/ About the project
Vu Dan Tan, one of the most important artists in the contemporary Vietnamese art scene, was known for his unique application of recycled and found materials such as carton boxes or discarded candy packets in his works. Four sculptures inspired by his old sketches were installed at the historic Hanoi Children's Palace as a part of the Hanoi Festival of Creative Design 2024.
Based on Vu Dan Tan’s artistry and with the mission to create an interactive experience for the visiting children, I collaborated with the curators of The Initiative of Children’s Book Creative Content to come up with a treasure hunt game kit that allows the children to find their way to all four sculptures.

At each sculpture, the children would complete a mission and collect a puzzle piece, which after all four stops would be combined to create a colorful picture. The kids get to choose the color of each piece and how they want to piece all four together. This process encourages the kids to participate in creative thinking and explore as far as their curiosity leads.
/ applications
Keeping true to Vu Dan Tan’s artistic style, I deliberately requested the use of recycled materials during the production of this kit. Leftover paper was collected from print shops to use as the frames of the puzzle pieces. Two thin strips of single-face corrugated cardboard are then glued to the inside to create a sliding mechanism for the puzzle pieces. The finished picture then could be played in the light to create colorful shadows, or used as tinted glass! A set of stamps was designed for the kids to mark each stop they have completed on the map.
